Synopsis
Dr. Agrawal will speak about his research which includes sustainable urban and rural planning, migration, Indigenous issues, and human rights, with a particular focus on equity, inclusion, and social justice. For the presentation, Dr. Agrawal will focus on immigration from a multifaceted perspective, including its economic dimensions.
Biography
An accomplished scholar, Dr. Agrawal has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, professional reports, and book chapters, as well as three books. His research has informed municipal, provincial, and Indigenous policies and legislation in areas such as planning, housing, migration, human rights, and community development. In recognition of his contributions to planning scholarship and education, he received the Canadian Institute of Planners’ national academic award for outstanding contributions to planning research and education in Canada.
Dr. Agrawal has secured more than $150 million in research funding, including a major $98.6 million grant supporting migration research across Canada. He recently concluded two research papers addressing pertinent questions: "Did Immigrants Cause the Recent Housing Crisis?" and "Are Newcomers Responsible for Municipal Deficits?"
